Clay and Wire Sculptures

The Clay and Wire series developed from my "Luddite" reaction to contemporary society's dependence on digital technology.  The wire and beaded circuits embedded in metallic glazed forms are my  interpretation of the dehumanizing aspects of our digital culture.

The cracked sculptures are each constructed from clay draped over a steel wire armature.  When the clay shrinks as it dries, the armatures create resistance resulting in random cracking.  These sculptures are also smoked in combustibles after they are bisque fired.
